The innocent heart

“Our heritage and ideals, our code and standards - the things we live by and teach our children - are preserved or diminished by how freely we exchange ideas and feelings”-Walt Disney

The development of the nation is seen by the growth of its GDP but really does it define it? We often forget the development of our people and the most vulnerable of all, our children, the next generation. Children define our future. They are the dreams that we have seen to rejuvenate our happiness.

But just getting them educated is not going to make any difference. There are so many problems faced by the children mentally or physically in their day to day life. Some problems include child molestation. Child sexual abuse or child molestation is a form of child abuse in which an adult or older adolescent uses a child for sexual stimulation. Forms of child sexual abuse include asking or pressuring a child to engage in sexual activities (regardless of the outcome), indecent exposure (of the genitals, female nipples, etc.) to a child with intent to gratify their own sexual desires or to intimidate or groom the child, physical sexual contact with a child, or using a child to produce child pornography.

Child molestation has seen drastic upward inclination. The global prevalence of child sexual abuse has been estimated at 19.7% for females and 7.9% for males. Most sexual abuse offenders are acquainted with their victims; approximately 30% are relatives of the child, most often brothers, fathers, uncles, or cousins; around 60% are other acquaintances, such as "friends" of the family, babysitters, or neighbors; strangers are the offenders in approximately 10% of child sexual abuse cases. Most child sexual abuse is committed by men; studies on female child molesters show that women commit 14% to 40% of offenses reported against boys and 6% of offenses reported against girls.

The word pedophile is commonly applied indiscriminately to anyone who sexually abuses a child, but child sexual offenders are not pedophiles unless they have a strong sexual interest in prepubescent children. Under the law, child sexual abuse is an umbrella term describing criminal and civil offenses in which an adult engages in sexual activity with a minor or exploits a minor for the purpose of sexual gratification. The American Psychiatric Association states that "children cannot consent to sexual activity with adults", and condemns any such action by an adult: "An adult who engages in sexual activity with a child is performing a criminal and immoral act which never can be considered normal or socially acceptable behavior."

To focus on the cause, we must know the cause. What possibly cause someone to molest a child or a woman? In general, sexual abusers act because they fit into one of four broad categories. They act because:

  1. They are children or teenagers who are sexually curious or experimenting.
  2. They have a medical or mental problem that needs treatment.
  3. They are opportunists, who lack feelings for others and who have an antisocial personality disorder.
  4. They have an ongoing sex drive directed toward children.

Pedophilia is a well-known disorder. It's defined by the American Psychiatric Association in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, DSM-IV-TR.

You may be familiar with the main features of this disorder, but we want to be sure you understand the importance of some of the details.

To be diagnosed with pedophilia, a person must:

  • be sexually aroused by, have intense, recurring sexual fantasies of, or be involved in sexual behavior with a prepubescent child or children (generally 13 years or younger);
  • be aroused by, have sexual fantasies of, or be involved with a child for at least six months.;
  • be at least 16 years old, and
  • be at least five years older than the child or children he or she is attracted to

this is all the information that we can see but what are we doing to the children after they are actually abused, we basically tell them to keep quite not to raise a voice because the name of the family migh go down. We let the pain of the children hammer them because the name is bigger than the emotions. If this is done by any relative then we tell our children it’s okay they are just being friendly with you. But we tend to forget that child sexual abuse can result in both short term and long term harm, including psychopathology in later life. We can easily see changes in their life like depression, anxiety, eating disorder, poor self esteem, sleep disturbance and anxiety disorder. The strongest indicator of sexual abuse is sexual acting out and inappropriate sexual knowledge and interest.

I know lot of people will think it is okay to let of go these things and it’s a phase and  it will pass.

No it won’t it pass. The cruelty has made a home in their soul. Don’t let a child suffer with this. A victim myself I know how it feels to remember a horrific nightmare. The memories are harsh and we should take a stand to erase it form the mind and heart. Don’t let the words of society fool you. They are your children speak out for them. Teach your children the difference in good and wrong touch. Stand by them and with them. If you can rely on them for taking care of you when you grow old then you look out for them when they are young and enthusiastic.

Don’t let them suffer. Don’t let the pain make them hate themselves. Don’t let the pain make them a remorseful soul.

BE THE CHANGE TO SEE THE CHANGE.

Girl’s poem to rapist read out in court

The Fear Of A Dark Room

A beautiful room full of light

When I look at this room it brings me joy, happiness

and my heart beats fast when I look at it,

but then you came into that room.

You destroyed everything you made it a dark evil room.

The bed that was full of red roses is now full of red blood. I dare not look at that mirror I see a sad girl tears dropping down

there is darkness I can feel some shadow in the dark

a sparkling night gown is not shiny anymore

It’s all in pieces and full of blood when I look at the bed again

I see a body sleeping, a body without breath, arm without warmth, mouth without a smile, eyes full of tears in their sleep I cannot wake it up

WELL DONE SHREYA: MY CHILD Child abuse is a national tragedy, taking the lives of three children every day and affecting millions of children and families every year. We need to work together to help strengthen and support families so that we can prevent such tragedies from occurring. "Every one should come forward to raise the voice to kill this social evil". CHILD Protection & Child Rights, Violence with children According to UNICEF violence against children can be "physical and mental abuse and injury, neglect or negligent treatment, exploitation and sexual abuse. Violence may take place in homes, schools, orphanages, residential care facilities, on the streets, in the workplace, in prisons and in places of detention." Child Abuse Child Violence in India Such violence can affect the normal development of a child impairing their mental, physical and social being. In extreme cases abuse of a child can result in death. Child abuse has many forms: physical, emotional, sexual, neglect, and exploitation. Any of these that are potentially or actually harmful to a child's health, survival, dignity and development are abuse. This definition is derived from the W.H.O. In 2007, the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) released a study report on child abuse. The report discusses incidence of child abuse nationwide. It is estimated that 150 million girls and 73 million boys under 18 have been subjected to forced sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual violence. In 2002 there were 53,000 reported cases of child homicide. A Global School-Based Student Health Survey found that 20% and 65% of school going children reported having been verbally and physically bullied in the last 30 days. ILO estimates show there were 218 million child labourers in 2004, out of which 126 million were engaged in hazardous work. UNICEF estimated 3 million girls and women in sub-Saharan Africa, Egypt and Sudan are subjected to female genital mutilation every year. The end of the content sounds original and has your personal touch. Acknowledge the stats youve taken the info from, also, too much of technicals. Excellent topic, listen to Lady Gaga's new song, video is too good.

A topic I have been thinking to share with you, but could not be able to explain the way you did. Hats off, for the detailed explanation. I always think, if we say less people may not understand, and if we say more people may misunderstand. Saying recisely and exactly what we intend to say, is the best thing we can do. I would like to extend the reason for MOLESTATION (specially child molestation). Believe it or not, Indian cinema plays a very vital role in grooming the personal and social behaviour of Indian YOUTH (children as well). The amount of boldness, openess, adultness, and whatever we see now-a-days, is just a mere shock!!! How does our sensor board allow all that??? Censor board censors a fighting scene from Ghajini (in the starting fight sequence, when Amir kills the villian by stabbing TAP), saying its unhumane and against Indian society. But what about the vulgarity, that is spreading day by day??? In name of Item songs, all the actors are crossing there limits, not because they want to, because they get paid to do that. I am not sure if my thoughts are correct or not, but whatever is shown on TV, serials, movies : is what the youth learn. And the vulgarity in it, is the triggering force for the Molesters, as they find CHILD to be the easiest source of their desire. Please correct me, if I am wrong. And keep doing the good work. Salute to you girl.

A very well written article by Shreya Tiwari . She definitely wins a lot of hearts by putting forward an issue that's pushed behind the carpets so delicately , sensitively and appropriately. Though it needs to be clearl understood that both the child molester and and the one being molested needs to be addressed equally as pedophilia in itself is a disease and a victim to pedophilia   has scars that remain unheard and un healed . for a long time . A very well attempt must say ! cheers
